Berroco Comfort Chunky bulky (chunky) weight yarn (3 1/2 oz/150 yds/100g per skein) (5):

4 [5, 5, 6, 6, 7] skeins #5750 primary red

Size L/11/8mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Tapestry needle

GAUGE

4 V-sts = 4 inches; 5 V-st rows = 4 inches

Take time to check gauge.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

JACKET

Back

Row 1 (RS): Ch 53 [59, 65, 71, 77, 83], sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (52 [58, 64, 70, 76, 82] sc)

Row 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), sk next 2 sts, [V-st (see Special Stitches) in next st, sk next 2 sts] across, ending with dc in last st, turn. (16 [18, 20, 22, 24, 26] V-sts, 2 dc)

Rows 3-30 [3-31, 3-32, 3-33, 3-34, 3-35]: Ch 3, V-st in ch sp of each V-st across, dc in last st, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

Both Fronts

Row 1: Working in foundation ch on opposite side of row 1 of Back, with RS facing, join with sc in first ch, sc in each ch across, turn.

Left Front

Row 2: Ch 3, sk next st, [V-st in next st, sk next 2 sts] 7 [8, 9, 10, 11, 12] times, dc in next st, leaving rem sts unworked, turn. (7 [8, 9, 10, 11, 12] V-sts, 2 dc)

Rows 3—30 [3—31, 3—32, 3—33, 3-34, 3-35]: Ch 3, V-st in ch sp of each V-st across, dc in last st, turn.

Sizes Small, Large & 2X-Large Only

At end of last row, fasten off.

Sizes Medium, X-Large & 3X-Large Only

At end of last row, do not turn or fasten off.

Side Edging

For the sizes that fasten off, join (see Pattern Notes) in end of last row on outside edge.

Working in ends of rows, ch 1, 2 sc in end of each row across to row 1, sc in end of first row on Left Front and Back, working in ends of row across side edge of Back, 2 sc in end of each row across. Fasten off. (118 [122, 126, 130, 134, 138] sc)

Right Front

For the sizes that fasten off, join in end of last row on outside edge.

Working in ends of rows, ch 1, 2 sc in end of each row across to row 1, sc in end of first row on Right Front and Back, working in ends of row across side edge of Back, 2 sc in end of each row across. Fasten off (118 [122, 126, 130, 134, 138] sc)

Assembly

With WS tog, matching sts of Side Edgings, sew first 40 [41, 41, 41, 41, 41] sts from bottom edge tog in back lps (see Stitch Guide), leaving rem sts open for armhole.

Rep on rem side.

Sleeve

Rnd 1: Working in sts around 1 armhole opening, join with sc in any st, sc in each st around, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc, turn. (38 [40, 44, 48, 52, 56] sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in first 2 sts, sc in each of next 14 [18, 22, 26, 30, 34] sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each st around, join in beg sc, turn. (36 [38, 42, 46, 50, 54] sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in each of next 13 [17, 21, 25, 29, 33] sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each st around, join in beg sc, turn. (34 [36, 40, 44, 48, 52] sc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in each of next 12 [16, 20, 24, 28, 32] sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each st around, join in beg sc, turn. (32 [34, 38, 42, 46, 50] sc)

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in each of next 11 [15, 19, 23, 27, 31] sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each st around, join in beg sc, turn. (30 [32, 36, 40, 44, 48] sc)

Rep on rem armhole.

Front & Neck Edging

Row 1: Working in ends of rows, join with sc in end of last row on Right Front, sc in same row, 2 sc in end of each row up neck, sc in each of next 4 sts across foundation row, 2 sc in end of each row across Left Front, turn. (120 [124, 128, 132, 136, 140] sc)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

Bottom Edging

Working in ends of rows on Front Edging, join with sc in first row on Left Front, sk next 2 rows, shell in next row, *[sl st in sp before next V-st, shell in ch sp of next V-st] across** to Side Edging, sl st in sp before Side Edging, shell in side, rep from * across to last 3 rows, ending last rep at **, sl st in sp before Front Edging, shell in end of next row, sk next 2 rows, sc in last row.
