Universal Yarn Bamboo Pop light (DK) weight cotton/bamboo yarn LST (3 1/2 oz/292 yds/100g per bail):

Size F/5/3.75mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

1/4-1/2-inch decorative buttons: 4

Tapestry needle

GAUGE

16 tr = 4 inches; 4 shells = 4 inches; 7 shell rows = 4 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Garment is worked from the top down by working front and back separately in two pieces down to the beginning of the body part. The body is worked in the round joining front piece to back piece as you work. Length can be adjusted by eliminating or adding rows to Body section.

Sleeves can be sewn shut on top if desired; add more buttons to sleeve opening if desired.

Chain-3 at beginning of rows counts as first treble crochet unless otherwise stated.

Join with slip stitch where indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Shell: (2 tr, ch 1, 2 tr) in indicated st or sp.

V-stitch (V-st): (tr, ch 1, tr) in indicated st orsp.

TUNIC

BACK BODICE

Row 1: Loosely ch 115 [123,131,139,147, 155,163,171,179,187]. Use a larger hook if needed. Tr in 4th ch from hook (this counts as first and 2nd tr), tr in each ch across. (113 [121,129,137,145,153,161, 169,177,185] tr)

Row 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), turn, tr in same st, *sk next 3 sts**, shell (see Special Stitches) in next st, rep from * across, ending final rep at **, 2 tr in last st. (27[29,31,33,35,37,39,41,43,45] shells, 4 tr)

Row 3: Ch 3, turn, tr in same st, *shell in ch-1 sp of next shell; rep from * across, ending with 2 tr in last st.

Rep row 3 until piece measures 8 [8 1/2,9,9 1/2,10,10 1/2,11,11 1/2,12,12 1/2] inches from starting ch. Fasten off.

FRONT BODICE

Work as for Back Bodice.

BODY

Working in the round, you will be joining the Front Bodice to the Back as you work.

Rnd 1: With RS of Front Bodice facing, sk 6 shells, join (see Pattern Notes) in ch sp of 7th shell, ch 3, (tr, ch 1, 2 tr) in same sp, shell in each ch sp of next 15 [17,19,21,23,25,27,29,31,33] shells, with RS of Back Bodice facing, sk first 6 shells on Back, shell in each ch sp of next 15 [17,19,21,23,25,27,29,31,33] shells, join in beg ch-3 to complete rnd. (30 [34,38,42,46,50,54,58,62,66] shells)

Rnd 2: Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of first shell, ch 3, (tr, ch 1, 2 tr) in same sp, shell in each shell sp around, join in top of beg ch-3.

Rnds3-5: Rep rnd 2.

Rnd 6: Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of first shell, ch 3, (tr, ch 1, 2 tr) in same sp, tr in gap between current shell and next shell, *shell in next shell sp, tr in gap between current shell and next shell, rep from * around, join in top of beg ch-3. (30 [34, 38,42,46,50,54,58,62,66] shells, 30 [34,38,42,46,50,54,58,62,66] tr)

Rnd 7: Turn, sl st in first tr, ch 4 (counts as tr, ch 1), tr in same st, shell in next shell sp, *V-st (see Special Stitches) in next tr, shell in shell; rep from * around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (30 [34,38,42,46,50,54,58,62,66] shells, 30 [34,38,42,46,50,54,58,62,66] V-sts)

Rnd 8: Turn, (sl st, ch 3, tr, ch 1, 2 tr) in first ch sp, V-st in next V-st sp, *shell in next shell sp, V-st in next V-st, rep from * around, join in top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 9: Turn, (sl st, ch 4, tr) in first ch sp, shell in next shell, *V-st in next V-st sp, shell in next shell sp, rep from * around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-4.

Rep rnds 8 and 9 until piece measures 31 [32,33,34,35,36,37,38,39,40] inches from starting ch, ending with a rnd 9. Adjust length here if needed by eliminating or adding rnds, the bottom edge will add 1 inch to the final length.

Bottom Edge

Rnd 1: Turn, (sl st, ch 3, 7 tr) in first ch sp, sc in next V-st sp, *8 tr in next shell sp, sc in next V-st sp, rep from * around, join in top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 2: Turn, (sl st, ch 4) in first tr, [tr in next tr, ch 1] 6 times, tr in next tr, *[tr in next tr, ch 1] 7 times, tr in next tr, rep from * around, join in top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 3: Turn, sl st in next tr, si st in next ch sp, ch 1, sc in same ch sp, [ch 1, sc in next ch sp] 5 times, sk next 2 tr, *[sc in next ch sp, ch 1] 5 times, sc in next ch sp, sk next 2 tr, rep from * around, join in first sc.

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew underarm sleeve seam from outside edge to first set of shells.

Buttons

Sew tog the outer edge of each sleeve with a 1/4-1/2-inch seam in from edge depending on the size buttons you are using. Measure 7 1/2 [8,9,9 1/2,9 1/2,9 1/2,10,10,10 1/2,10 1/2] inches from outer sleeve edge toward center of neck and sew tog Front and Back with a 1/4-1/2-inch seam. Additional Buttons can be added between these two spots as desired.

Edgings

Join in any st of Back Bodice, ch 1, sc evenly around neck opening, join in first sc.

Fasten off.

Rep sc edging around armhole openings.

Sew on buttons.

Weave in all loose ends. Steam-block to open up the sts and relax the yarn.
