3.75mm circular, 80cm 3.75mm DPNs

6 (6,7,7,8,8,9) buttons, 1 cm diameter

TIP "Both the body and sleeves of this shrug can easily be lengthened by working longer sections of St st before the frilled edging".

This shrug is worked from the top down in one piece with the sleeves put on hold and finished once the body has been completed.

With circular needles, cast on 103 (115, 119, 127, 135, 135, 143) sts. Do not join.

Work in Seed st for 2 rows.

Buttonhole Row (RS): K1, p2tog, yo, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Work in Seed st for 1 row.

Raglan Set-Up Row (RS): [K1, p1] twice, kl6 (19, 20, 22, 24, 24, 26), pm, k14, pm, k35 (41, 43, 47, 51, 51, 55), pm, k14, pm, k16 (19, 20, 22, 24, 24, 26), [p1, k1] twice.

Row 1 (WS): K1, p1, k1, p to last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1.

Body

Remembering to cont working buttonholes as set every 3cm, work as foll:

Row 1 (WS): K1, p1, k1, p to last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1.

Row 2: [K1, p1] twice, k to last 4 sts, [p1, k1] twice.

Rep rows 1-2 until body measures 7 (7, 8, 8, 9,10, 10) cm from underarm, ending after a RS row.

Next Row (WS): K1, p1, k1, [p10 (12, 11, 12, 14, 13, 12), p2tog] 12 (12, 14, 14, 14, 16, 18) times, p to last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1. 143 (163, 181, 201, 221, 239, 257) sts Work in Seed st for 3 rows.

Next Row (RS): Cast off 4 sts, work in Seed st to end. 139 (159, 177, 197, 217, 235, 253) sts

Lower Frill

Row 1 (RS): Cast off 4 sts, k1, *kfb, k1; rep from * to end. 202 (232, 259, 289, 319, 346, 373) sts.

Row 2: Purl.

Row 3: K0 (0, 1, 1, 1, 0, 1), *kfb, k1; rep from * to end. 303 (348, 388, 433, 478, 519, 559) sts.

Cont straight in St st until ruffle measures 3cm, ending after a WS row. Cast off all sts.

SLEEVES

Work both the same

With RS facing place held sleeve sts onto DPNs and rejoin yarn.

Pu and k2 (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 10) sts at underarm and join to work in the md. Pm to mark beg of rnd. 54 (58, 66, 72, 78, 88, 94) sts

Work in St st for 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5) cm. Work in Seed st for 4 rnds.

Frill

Rnd 1: *Kfb, k1; rep from * to end. 81 (87, 99, 108, 117, 132, 141) sts

Rnd 2: Knit.

Rnd 3: K1 (1, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1), *kfbf k1; rep from * to end. 121 (130, 148, 162, 175, 198, 211) sts

Cont straight in St st until frill measures 3cm. Cast off all sts.

Finishing

Weave in all ends and block to dimensions given in schematic. Attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
