YOU WILL NEED

Yarn Stories Fine Merino and Baby Alpaca Aran 70% fine merino, 30% baby alpaca (approx 95m per 50g)

6[7] x 50g balls Fuchsia (A)

2[3] x 50g balls Duck Egg (B)

2 x 50g balls Leaf (C)

1 pair 4mm needles

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

24 sts and 32 rows to 10cm over st st using 4mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

PATTERN NOTES

The poncho is made up of two rectangles, one large and one small with stripes. It is slightly asymmetrical to add some interest to the poncho. It is fun to knit and you can make your own design by changing the colours to your liking.

LARGE RECTANGLE

With A, cast on 90[120] sts.

Knit in garter st until work meas 100[115]cm (39.5[45]in).

Cast off, making sure the cast-off edge is as elastic as the cast-on edge.

SMALL STRIPED RECTANGLE

With B, cast on 55[85] sts.

Knit 7 rows in garter st.

Change to C.

Beg with a k row, work 6 rows in st st.

Change to B.

Work 6 rows in st st.

Repeat the last 12-row stripe pattern 9[13] more times, then work 6 more rows in C.

Cont with C, knit 7 rows in g st.

Cast off loosely.

STRIPED RECTANGLE EDGING

With B, pick up 71[95] sts along long side of rectangle as folls: pick up 4 sts along garter st edge and 3 sts along each stripe.

Next row (RS): K1tbl to end.

Knit 6 more rows in g st.

Cast off loosely.

Make sure cast-off edge is as elastic as the rest of the rectangle.

Rep for other side.

TO FINISH OFF

Weave in loose ends.

Press Striped Rectangle gently on wool setting with the steam function on.

Stitch the short side of Striped Rectangle to the long side of Large Rectangle, starting at the corners.

Weave in end.

Fold Large Rectangle double and stitch the other short side of the Striped Rectangle to same side of Large Rectangle, at opposite side.

Weave in loose ends.
