Abbreviations

Sl2tog: Slip 2 sts tog k-wise

The stitch pattern is the same for the front, back and sleeves and can be worked from chart or written instructions. This pattern requires the knitter to keep pattern correct whilst working shaping. If you have trouble with this, take a look at the chart, and use this to help you make sure each decrease in the pattern is matched by an increase. If there are insufficient stitches to work both, work the end stitches of rows in St st.

You may also find it useful to use stitch markers to help you keep track of pattern repeats.

BACK

Cast on 110 (122, 134, 146, 158) sts.

Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

These 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until back measures 6cm, inc 1 st at end of last row and ending with RS facing for next row. 111 (123, 135, 147, 159) sts

Next Row (RS): Kl, work Allerdale patt from chart or written instructions to last 2 sts, k2.

Next Row & all WS rows: Purl (WS rows are not shown in chart).

Cont straight until Back measures 32cm, ending after a WS row.

Shape armhole back neck

Next Row (RS): Keeping patt correct, cast off 3 sts, work until there are 52 (58, 64, 70, 76) sts on RH needle and turn, leaving rem sts on holder. Work 1 row even in patt.

Next Row: K1, ssk, work in patt to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. 2 sts deed

Next Row: P1, work in patt to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1. 2 sts deed

**Working all decs as set by last 2 rows, dec 1 st at neck edge of next and foll 31 (33, 34, 35, 37) alt rows AND AT SAME TIME dec 1 st at armhole edge of next and foll 3 alt rows. 13 (17, 22, 27, 31) sts

Work 3 (3, 5, 7, 7) rows, ending after a WS row.

Work should measure approximately 19 (20, 21, 22, 23) cm from start of armhole shaping.

Cast off.**

With RS facing, sl centre st onto a holder, rejoin yarn and work in patt to end.

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next row. 52 (58, 64, 70, 76) sts

Next Row (RS): K1, ssk, work in patt to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

Next Row: P1, p2tog, work in patt to last st, p1.

Complete to match first side from ** to **, reversing the shapings.

FRONT

Work as for Back, shaping only for the armhole (do not split for neck) until 18 rows fewer have been worked than on Back to final cast-off edge, ending after a WS row. 93 (105, 120, 135, 147) sts

Shape front neck

Next Row (RS): Work in patt for 40 (44, 49, 54, 58) sts and turn, leaving rem sts on a holder.

Work each side of neck separately.

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next and foil 8 alt rows, ending after a WS row. 13 (17, 22, 27, 31) sts

Cast off.

With RS facing, place centre 13 (17, 19, 21, 25) sts onto a holder, rejoin yarn to rem sts and work in patt to end.

Complete to match first side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES

Work both the same

Cast on 62 sts.

Work in rib as given for back until sleeve measures 3cm, inc 1 st at end of last row and ending after a WS row. 63 sts

Next Row (RS): K1, work Allerdale patt from chart or written instructions to last 2 sts, k2.

Next Row & all WS rows: Purl (WS rows are not shown in chart).

Cont in patt AND AT THE SAME TIME inc as directed below, remembering to incorporate new sts into Allerdale patt.

Inc 1 st at each end of 7th (5th, 5th, 3rd, 3rd) and every foll 10th (8th, 8th, 6th, 6th) row to 81 (87, 73, 91, 79) sts, then on 1 (0, 10, 4, 13) foll 8th (-, 6th, 4th, 4th) rows. 83 (87, 93, 99, 105) sts

Cont straight until sleeve measures 32cm, ending after a WS row.

Shape top

Keeping patt correct, cast off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. 71 (75, 81, 87, 93) sts

Next Row (RS): K1, ssk, work in patt to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

Next Row: P1, p2tog, work in patt to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1.

Working all decs as set by last 2 rows, dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows, then on foll 19 (21, 22, 24, 26) alt rows, then on foll 3 rows. 17 (17, 21, 23, 25) sts

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 11 (11, 15, 17, 19) sts

Cast off rem sts.

Making up: Join right shoulder seam using back stitch, or mattress stitch if preferred. 

Neckband

With RS facing, using circular needle, pu and k 23 sts down left side of front neck, k 13 (17, 19, 21, 25) sts from front holder dec (dec, inc, dec, dec) 1 st at centre, pu k 23 sts up right side of front neck, and pu and k 54 (58, 58, 62, 62) sts down right side of back neck, k st on hold from centre back and mark with removable marker, then pu and k 54 (58, 58, 62, 62) sts up left side of back neck. 167 (179, 183, 191, 195) sts

Rnd 1 (RS): [K2, p2] to marked st, k1, p2, [k2, p2] to end.

Note: In Rnd 2 & foll rows, you will work the marked st at centre back as part of the cdd and dec both sts around it. You should replace the marker as needed and maintain the rib patt for all other sts.

Rnd 2: Work in rib as set in Rnd 1 to 1 st before marked st, cdd, work in rib as set to end. Rep Rnd 2 until neckband measures 3cm, ending after a WS row.

Cast off in rib, still dec either side of marked st as before. Set in sleeves using set-in method, weave in ends and block to finished measurements.
