11[12:12:13:14:14] x 50g balls in shade 32
1 pair each 3.25mm, 3.75mm and 4mm needles
4mm crochet hook
2 stitch markers
Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.
26 sts and 36 rows to 10cm over patt using 4mm needles.
22 sts and 28 rows to 10cm over st st using 4mm needles.
Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.
With 4mm needles, cast on 117[129:141:153:165:177] sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, (p1, k1) to end.
Row 2: Purl.
Rows 3-4: As rows 1-2.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: K2, (p1, k1) to last st, k1.
Row 8: Purl.
Rows 9-10: As rows 7-8.
Row 11: Knit.
Row 12: Purl.
These 12 rows form patt.
** Cont in patt until work meas 41cm (16in) from beg, ending after a WS row.
Pm at centre of last row.
Loosely cast off 5[6:7:9:10:11] sts at beg of next 2 rows. 107[117:127:135:145:155] sts.
Dec 1 st at each end of next 5[6:7:9:10:11] rows. 97[105:113:117:125:133] sts.
Now dec 1 st at each end of every RS row until 89(95:101:109:115:121] sts rem. **
Cont straight until work meas
17(18:19:20:21:22]cm (6 3/4[7:7 1/2:7 3/4:8 1/4:8 3/4]in) from marker, ending after a WS row.
Loosely cast off 7(7:8:9:10:10] sts at beg of next 4 rows. 61(67:69:73:75:81] sts.
Loosely cast off 6(8:8:9:9:11] sts at beg of next 2 rows. 49(51:53:55:57:59] sts.
Slip rem sts to a stitch holder and leave.
Lower left section With 4mm needles, cast on 33(39:45:51:57:63] sts.
Work in patt as for Back until work meas 20cm (8in) not stretched, ending after a RS row. Slip sts on to a holder and leave. Lower right section With 4mm needles, cast on 71(77:83:89:95:101] sts.
Work in patt as for Back for 20cm (8in), ending after same patt row as on lower left section.
Next row: P71 [77:83:89:95:101], cast on 13 sts neatly to end of needle holding these sts, then with WS facing p across 33(39:45:51:57:63] sts on holder. 117(129:141:153:165:177] sts.
Work as Back from ** to **. 89(95:101:109:115:121] sts.
Cont straight until Front meas 9[9:10:10:11:11]cm (3 1/2[3 1/2:4:4:4 1/4:4 1/4]in) from marker, ending after a WS row.
Next row: Work across 27(29:31:34:36:38] sts, turn.
Cont on this group of sts for left half of neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 5 rows, then on 2 foil alt rows. 20(22:24:27:29:31] sts.
Cont straight until Front meas same as Back to shoulder shaping, ending at armhole edge.
Cast off loosely 7(7:8:9:10:10] sts at beg of next row and foll alt row. 6(8:8:9:9:11] sts. Work 1 row. Cast off.
With RS facing, si next 35(37:39:41:43:45] sts (centre sts) to a holder and leave.
Neatly rejoin to rem 27(29:31:34:36:38] sts and work to end of row.
Complete as left half of neck.
SLEEVES (MAKE 2)
With 3.25mm needles, cast on 42(44:46:48:50:52] sts evenly, taking care not to work tightly.
Beg with a k row work 5 rows in st st.
Change to 3.75mm needles and work a further 9 rows in st st.
Change to 4mm needles and cont in st st, shaping Sleeve by inc 1 st at each end of next row, then on every foll 8th[6th:6th:6th:6th:4th] row to 56(54:72:80:70:66] sts, then on every foll 8th[8th:8th:8th:6th:6th] row to 72(76:82:86:90:96] sts.
Work straight until Sleeve meas 45[45:45:46:46:46]cm
(17 3/4[17 3/4:17 3/4:18:18:18]in) at centre, measured through centre of work and allowing for lower edge to roll up, ending after a p row.
Loosely cast off 5(6:7:9:10:11] sts at beg of next 2 rows. 62(64:68:68:70:74] sts.
Work 0[2:4:6:8:8] rows straight.
Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then on every foll alt row until 32(34:40:40:44:46] sts rem, then on every row until 22(24:30:30:34:36] sts rem.
Cast off loosely.
With 3.25mm needles, RS of front facing, leaving 13 cast-on sts free, pick up and k59 sts evenly along left edge of slit.
Rows 1-4: Knit.
Row 5 (eyelet row for lacing): K13, (yfwd, k2tog, k5) 6 times, yfwd, k2tog, k2.
Rows 6-10: Knit.
Cast off firmly kwise.
Work second border to match but noting that lacing row will be: K2, (k2tog, yfwd, k5) 7 times, k8.
Join left shoulder. With 3.25mm needles, RS facing, k49[51:53:55:57:59] sts of Back neck dec 5[5:5:6:6:6] sts evenly across, pick up and k27[29:29:32:32:36] sts evenly down left side of Front neck, k35[37:39:41:43:45] sts of Front neck dec 3[3:3:4:4:4] sts evenly across, finally pick up and k27[29:29:32:32:36] sts evenly up right side of Front neck. 130(138:142:150:154:166] sts.
Change to 4mm needles and, beg with p row, work 4 rows in st st.
Change to 3.75mm needles and work 4 more rows in st st.
Finally change to 3.25mm needles and work 4 more rows in st st.
Press Sleeves only on WS foil pressing instructions. Sew in Sleeves. Join side and Sleeve seams. Stitch side edges of lower borders to 13 cast-on sts. Press all seams. Using 4mm crochet hook and holding yarn double, crochet a length of chain approx 110cm (43in) long. Fasten off. Slot chain through lacing eyelets and tie in a bow. Knot both ends of chain.
