Special Technique

Knit Bind-Off: K2, *return 2 sts to LH needle, k2tog-tbl, k1; rep from * until only 2 sts rem on RH needle; return 2 sts to LH needle, k2tog-tbl, then cut yarn and fasten off.

Pattern Notes

The pattern increases stitches within each repeat and then binds off stitches at the beginning of the next repeat, creating a shifting pattern that moves one step sideways with every repeat.

A stretchy cast-on, bind-off and wet blocking are imperative for success.

Shawl

Using knit cast-on, cast on 37 sts.

Knit 4 rows.

Work Rows 1-28 of Lace pat—41 sts.

Next row (RS): Bind off 4 sts, then work Row 1 of Lace pat to end.

Note: St on RH needle following bind-off is part of the Lace pat—38 sts.

Work Rows 2-28 of Lace pat—41 sts.

Rep [last 28 rows] 14 times—41 sts.

Next row (RS): Bind off 4 sts, knit to end—37 sts.

Knit 2 rows.

Bind off all sts on WS using Knit Bind-Off.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Wet-block aggressively to measurements, using blocking wires and pins.
