Shawl knitting pattern free

ShawlCombining lace, brioche stitch and garter stitch stripes, finished with a pretty knitted on lace edging, this spectacular shawl is sure to entertain keen knitters. It will be a treat to wear, too, thanks to its deep, semi-circular shape that wraps around the shoulders beautifully.

STITCH PATTERNS

TWO-COLOUR BRIOCHE

DC: dark colour

LC: light colour

Sl1yo: the working yarn must always be in front before slipping the stitch. On a brioche knit row (brk), bring yarn to the front and then slip the stitch. On a brioche purl row (brp), the working yarn is in place before slipping the stitch.

The slipped stitch with its yarnover is considered one stitch.

brk: brioche knit (brk). Knit the stitch that was slipped in the previous row together with its yarnover.

brp: brioche purl (brp). Purl the stitch that was slipped in the previous row together with its yarnover.

Brkyobrk (2 stitch increase): brk1, leaving stitch on LH needle, yo (yarn forward under needle then over needle to the back) then brk1 into the same stitch. 2 sts inc'd.

br4st inc: 4-st increase - (brk1, yo) twice, brk1.

slide: Slide all sts to the other end of the circular needle and pick up the colour indicated to work across the row.

LACE PANEL

Row 1: K3, yo, *K1, (K2tog, yo) twice, K1, (yo, SSK) twice, K2; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, K3.

Row 2 and all alt rows: K3, yo, K to lasl 3 sts, yo, K3.

Row 3: K3, yo, K2, *(K2tog, yo) twice, K3, (yo, SSK) twice, K1; rep from * to last 5 sts, K2, yo, K3,

Row 5: K3, yo, K2, yo, sk2po, *yo, K2tog, yo, K5, yo, SSK, yo, sk2po; rep from * to last 6 sts, (yo, K3) twice.

Row 7: As Row 1

Row 9: As Row 3.

Row 11: As Row 5.

Row 12: K3, yo, K to last 3 sts, yo, K3.

SHAWL

GARTER TAB

Using yarn A and 3.75mm needles, east on 3 sts.

Knit 6 rows.

At the end of the last row, do not turn work, rotate it 90 degrees clockwise so that the long side of the garter rectangle is at the top. Pick up and knit 3 sts along this edge (1 st in each purl bump of garter ridges).

Rotate piece another 90 degrees. Pick up and knit 3 sts along cast-on edge. 9 sts. Turn work.

GARTER CENTRE

Set up row (RS): K3, yo, KFB3 times, yo, K3. 14 sts.

Row 1 (WS): K3, yo, K to last 3 sts, yo, K3. 2sts inc'd.

FINISHING

Block work to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band, pinning each point of the border and working from the central point of the cast on edge out. Sew in all loose ends.
