A 4mm (US G/6) hook

ABBREVIATIONS
htr2tog (Yrh, insert hook in next stitch, yrh and pull up loop) 2 times, yrh and draw through all loops on hook.
HANDLES
Ch140, ss to first ch to join, being careful not to twist the chain.
Round 1 Ch2 (counts as htr throughout), htr in each ch around, ss to top of beginning ch-2 to join. [140 sts]
Rounds 2-5 Ch2, htr in each st around, ss to top of the beginning ch-2.
For the following round, insert the hook into the next st and also the remaining loop of the foundation chain of the corresponding st, and complete a dc as normal. This will join the work into a tube of double thickness to form the handle.
Round 6 Ch1 (does not count as st), dc in each st around, joining each st to the foundation ch, ss into the top of the beginning ch-2, inserting hook into st at base of turning ch on foundation round at the same time.
Round 7 Ch2, 14htr, ch40, skip 40 sts, 30htr, ch40, skip 40 sts, 15htr, ss to top of the beginning ch-2 (2 handles made).
Round 8 Ch2, htr in each st and each ch around (working into the ch rather than the ch-sp), ss to the top of the beginning ch-2.
Rounds 9-10 As Round 2.

Round 11 Ch1 (does not count as st), 1dc, *ch5, skip 4 sts, 1dc in next st; repeat from * around, omitting the dc on the last repeat, ss to top of first dc. [28 repeats of (dc, ch-5 sp)]
Round 12 Ss into each of the first 2 ch, ch1 (does not count as st), dc into same ch-5 sp, *ch3, 3tr into the next ch-5 sp, ch3, dc into the next ch-5 sp; repeat from * around, omitting the dc on the last repeat, ss to the top of the first dc. [14 repeats of (dc, ch-3 sp, 3-tr, ch-3 sp)]
Round 13 Ss into each of the first 2 ch, ch1 (does not count as st), dc into the same ch-3 sp, *ch5, dc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * around, omitting dc on the last repeat, ss to the top of the first dc. [28 repeats of (dc, ch-5 sp)]
Repeat last 2 rows another 12 times.
BASE
Round 38 Ss into the first ch-sp, ch2 (counts as htr), 4htr into the same ch-sp, *5htr into the next ch-sp; repeat from * around, ss to the top of the beginning ch-2. [140 sts]
Round 39 Ch2, htr in each st around, ss to the top of the beginning ch-2.
Round 40 Ch2, 4htr, htr2tog, (5htr, htr2tog) 19 times, ss to the top of the beginning ch-2. [120 sts]
Round 41 Ch2, 3htr, htr2tog, (4htr, htr2tog) 19 times, ss to the top of the beginning ch-2. [100 sts]
Round 42 Ch2, 2htr, htr2tog, (3htr, htr2tog) 19 times, ss to the top of the beginning ch-2. [80 sts]
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming the base.
TO FINISH
Flatten the bag with the handles aligned and sew the bag together along the base.
Weave in ends.
