Berroco Modern Cotton worsted (medium) weight yarn (3 1/2 oz/209 yds/100g per ball):
3 balls #1651 Narragansett
Sizes G/6/4mm and l/9/5.5mm crochet hooks or sizes needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle

GAUGE
Size G hook: 14 sc = 4 inches
Size I hook in pattern: 3 sts = 4 inches
SPECIAL STITCH
Front post treble crochet (fptr): Yo twice, insert hook from front to back to front around post of st indicated, draw lp through, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times.
FRONT
Foundation row (WS): With size G hook, ch 44; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch, turn. (43 sc)
Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc; sc in each sc to last 2 sc; 2 sc in next sc; sc in last sc, turn. (45 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc, turn.
Row 3: Rep row 1. (47 sc)
Row 4: Rep row 2.
Row 5: Rep row 1. (49 sc)
Rep row 2 until piece measures approximately 10 inches from beg.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
BACK
Work same as Front until piece measures same as Front. Do not fasten off.
FLAP
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sc; [sc dec in next 2 sc; sc in next 6 sc] twice; sc dec in next 2 sc; sc in next 5 sc; [sc dec in next 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc] twice; sc dec in next 2 sc; sc in last 3 sc, turn. (43 sc)
Note: Mark first and last st to indicate beg of Flap.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc, turn.
Rep row 2 until piece measures approximately 2 inches from beg, ending with a WS row. Change to I hook.
BORDER
Row 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as a dc on this and following rows), dc in each rem sc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each dc and in 3rd ch of turning ch-3, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, *fptr (see Special Stitch) around next dc on 2nd row below; on working row, sk sc behind fptr, dc in next sc; rep from * across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st and in 3rd ch of turning ch-3.
Row 5: Ch 3; *dc in next sc, fptr around next st on 2nd row below; on working row, sk sc behind fptr; rep from * to last 2 sc; dc in last 2 sc, turn.
Border Shaping
Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first 31 sts, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.
Row 2: Ch 1, *fptr around next dc on 2nd row below; on working row, sk sc behind fptr, dc in next sc; rep from * across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 21 sts, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.
Row 4: Ch 1; *dc in next sc, fptr around next st on 2nd row below, on working row, sk sc behind fptr; rep from * to last 2 sc; dc in last 2 sc, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first 13 sts, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

GUSSET/STRAP
Row 1 (RS): With size G hook, ch 253; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch, turn. (252 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc, turn.
Rep row 2 until piece measures approximately 2 inches wide. Fasten off, leaving a 10-inch end. Weave in other end.
ASSEMBLY
Sew short ends of Gusset/Strap tog. Placing seam at center bottom of Bag, pin edge of Gusset/Strap to lower and side edges of Front. With RS of Front facing you and with size G hook, sc Front to edge of Gusset/Strap. Pin rem edge of Gusset/Strap to Back between markers. With RS of Back facing you, sc Back to edge of Gusset/Strap; continuing on Flap only, sc evenly spaced along edges of flap.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
