A Basalt; 1 x100g skein

1 set 4mm (UK 8/US 6) circular needles, 40cm long

1 set 4mm (UK 8/US 6) double-pointed needles (DPNs)

TENSION 28 sts and 28 rows to 10cm over patt on 4mm needles.

Tension note: Snaeldan yarn is designed to be knitted with a slightly looser tension than you might expect for a yarn of this weight, to allow for a little fulling to happen in the washing process.

Using 4mm circular needles and yarn A, cast on 120 sts. Join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Place a marker at the beginning of the round.

Rounds 1 and 2: (K1, P1) to end. Change to yarn B.

Round 3: (K1, P1) to end.

Inc round: (K5, M1)to end. 144 sts.

Next round: Work round 1 of the Chart.

Continue in patt, working all 58 rounds of the Chart, changing to DPNs as the stitch count decreases near the top. When the Chart is completed and there are 36 sts left on the needle, break yarn B and continue in yarn A.

Next round: K2 tog to end. 18 sts.

Next round: Sk2po to end. 6 sts. Break the yarn and fasten off.

Weave in ends.
