MAKING UP

Press all pieces, taking care to match pieces where necessary. Join shoulders, slip stitching back neck border pieces together and sewing in place along back neck. Join side seams taking great care to match stripes.

With RS together, join narrow strip to long cast on edge of one half of a sleeve, using a neat back stitch. Now join other long edge of strip to other half of sleeve in same way. Repeat with second sleeve. Join side seams taking care to match stripes. Measure 4 1/2cm from shoulder seam on both fronts and on back, placing a pin to mark place. Insert sleeves, stretching stripes up to meet pin marker, easing in armhole excess where necessary. Match centre of narrow strip to shoulder seam and gather remaining sleeve head into position between centre and pins. Tack sleeve in place, turn to RS and check that a vertical stripe is running length of sleeve as far as pin. Turn back to inside and back stitch in place. Darn in all ends and lightly press.
