HOOD

Join raglan seams. Using 4mm (UK 8, US 6) needles cast on 24 (24: 25: 28) sts, then with RS facing using same needle and yarn work across 18 (20: 22: 22) sts left on a stitch holder at back of neck as follows: k3 (4: 5: 5), pick up loop between last and next st and knit into the back of this loop (this will now be referred to as ml), (k4 (4: 4: 4), m 1) 3 times, k3 (4: 5: 5), cast on 24 (24: 25: 28) sts. 70 (72: 76: 82) sts.

Next row: Purl.

Working in st-st (throughout) cont until hood measures 16 (17: 18: 19)cm, 6 1/4 (6 1/2: 7: 7 1/2)in, ending with a WS row.

ShapeTop

Next row: Cast off 23 (24: 25: 27) sts, k23 (23: 25: 27), cast off 23 (24: 25: 27) sts. 24 (24: 26: 28) sts. With WS facing, rejoin yarn to rem 24 (24: 26: 28) sts and purl to end.

Cont without shaping until hood measures 10(11: 11: 12)cm, 4 (4 1/4: 4 1/4: 4 3/4)in from cast off sts, ending with a WS row. Cast off.

Join side edges at top of hood to 23 (24: 25: 27) cast off sts.

HOOD BORDER

With RS facing, using 3.25mm (UK 10, US 3) needles pick up and knit 42 (44: 47: 50) sts evenly along right side of hood, 25 (25: 27: 29) sts from 24 (24: 26: 28) cast off sts at top of hood and 42 (44: 47: 50) sts evenly along left side of hood. 109 (113: 121: 129) sts.

Starting with 1 st row of 1 x1 rib work 5 rows. Cast off in rib.

TO MAKE UP

Join side and sleeve seams. Placing ends of hood borders to centre front of neck, sew hood evenly in position to sleeve tops and neck edge. Pin out garment to the measurement given. Cover with damp cloths and leave until dry.

IT'S IN THE DETAIL

Raglan sleeves are an effortless way to shape your garment, but you need to make sure you don't leave a hole in the fabric at the bottom of the armhole. One way of avoiding this is to twist your increases to eliminate the hole. You can also close the gap by weaving in a yarn end.
