Free knitting pattern yoke cardigan

Cardigan knitting patternCardigan is knitted flat and seamed. It is worked from the bottom up and features a simple lace stitch pattern that can be worked either from the chart or written instructions, whichever you prefer.

BACK a FRONT

Worked in one piece to armholes

With larger needles, cast on 86 (94, 100, 104, 110) sts.

Beg with a k row, work 2 rows in St st.

Shape front edges

Cont in St st, cast on 3 sts at beg of next 10 rows. 116 (124, 130, 134, 140) sts

Inc 1 st at each end of next 4 rows. 124 (132, 138, 142, 148) sts

Inc 1 st at each end of next and every foil alt row to 132 (144, 152, 160, 168) sts.

Work straight without shaping for 3 (5, 7, 7, 9) rows, ending after a WS row.

Next Row (RS, buttonhole): K1, yo, k2tog, k to end.

Work straight for 2 (4, 4, -, -) more rows, ending after a RS row.

Next Row (WS): P28 (31, 32, 34, 36), cast off 10 (10, 12, 12, 12) sts for underarm, p56 (62, 64, 68, 72), cast off 10 (10, 12, 12, 12) sts for underarm, p to end.

Leave rem 28 (31, 32, 34, 36) sts for fronts and 56 (62, 64, 68, 72) sts for back on hold to work later.

Work both the same

Using larger needles cast on 73 (73, 85, 85, 97) sts.

Work in Shell Lace patt from chart or written instructions until cuff measures 9 (9, 12, 12, 15) cm, ending after a Row 8 of patt.

Next Row (RS, dec): K1 (3, 1, 1, 0), [k3tog] 0 (0, 0, 0, 1) times, [k2tog] 35 (33, 41, 41, 45) times, [k3tog] 0 (0, 0, 0, 1) times, k2 (4, 2, 2, 1). 38 (40, 44, 44, 48) sts

Beg with a p row, work 3 rows in St st.

Picot neck edging

Switch to smaller needles.

Next Row (WS): P to last 2 sts, p2tog. 79 (95, 95, 107, 115) sts

Picot edging

With circular needle and RS facing, beg at top of left front edge, pu and k50 (58, 62, 66, 86) down left front edge, pu and k85 (93, 99, 103, 109) sts along cast-on edge, pu and k50 (58, 62, 66, 86) sts evenly up right front edge. Do not join. 185 (209, 223, 235, 281) sts

Work as for picot neck edging from ** to **.

Finishing

Join sleeve seams and join sleeves to body at underarms. Attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Over-sew the picot edging to WS of body, folding at the eyelet row. Weave in ends and block to dimensions given in schematic.
