A pair of 4mm needles

5 buttons for each cushion cover

30cm x 30cm (12in x 12in) cushion cover

TENSION

Yarn used knits as DK to this tension: 22 sts and 26 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over st st using 4mm needles

HOW TO USE OUR CHARTS

Start at the bottom right-hand corner. Read right side rows from right to left and wrong side rows from left to right. A row of squares represents a row of knitting.

NOTE

Remember to twist the yarns together during the colour changes, or you'll end up with holes.

CUSHION 1

Label yarns as folls:

Yarn A Orange

Yarn B Lemon

Yarn C Majesty

Yarn D Pool

Yarn E Anemone

Cast on 67 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn A.

Next row Purl.

Next row K6A, work 55 sts from Chart, K6A.

Next row P6A, work 55 sts from Chart, P6A.

This sets the patt for the Front.

Continue in patt until all 44 rows of Chart have been completed.

Repeat rows 25-34.

Work from row 24 of Chart back to row 1.

Knit 1 row in Yarn A.

Cast off.

LOWER BACK

*Cast on 63 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn C.

Next row Purl.

Row 1 K40C, K23A.

Row 2 P23A, P40C.

Repeat rows 1 & 2, 2 times more.

Row 7 K18D, K45E.

Row 8 P45E, P18D.

Buttonhole row K1, P2, K2, P2, *cast off 2 sts, P1, K2, P2, K2, P2; rep from * to last 8 sts, cast off 2 sts, P1, K2, P2.

Next row Work in rib as set, casting on 2 sts where you cast off in the previous row.

Next row K1, P2, *K2, P2; rep from * to end.

Next row *K2, P2; rep from * to last 3 sts, K2, P1.

Cast off sts.

CUSHION 2

TO MAKE UP

Join the Lower Back to the Front with right sides facing using mattress stitch. Join the Upper Back to the Front with the buttonhole rib overlapping the lower back.

Sew 5 buttons in place, corresponding their placing to the centre of the buttonholes.

Weave in all loose ends.
