Sizes F/5/3.5mm and l/9/5.5mm crochet hooks or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE

Size I hook: 7 hdc = 2 inches;

5 rows of Crown = 2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Do not join rounds unless otherwise stated. Use stitch marker to mark beginning of rounds and move up as each round is completed.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

Chain 2 at beginning of row or round counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated.

COZY

KNOB & CROWN

Rnd 1 (RS): With size I hook and cardinal, ch 2, 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place marker (see Pattern Notes). (10 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (20 sc)

Rnd 3: Sc in each st around.

Rnd 4: [Sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts] around, change color (see Stitch Guide) to forget-me-not in last st. (10 sc)

Rnd 5: Sc in each st around.

Rnd 6: 2 hdc in each st around. (20 hdc)

Rnd 7: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st] 10 times. (30 hdc)

Rnd 8: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 2 sts] 10 times. (40 hdc)

Rnd 9: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts] 10 times. (50 hdc)

FIRST SIDE

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn.

Rows 3-9: Rep row 2. At end of row 9, fasten off.

2ND SIDE

Row 1 (RS): With RS facing, sk next 2 sts of rnd 11, join forget-me-not in next st, ch 2, hdc in next 32 sts, leave rem sts unworked, turn. (33 hdc)

Rows 2-9: Rep rows 2-9. At end of row 9, do not fasten off.

LOWER EDGE

Rnd 1 (WS): Now working in rnds, ch 2, hdc in each of next 32 sts, ch 2, hdc in each of next 33 sts, ch 2, join in top of beg ch-2. (66 hdc, 4 chs)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in each of next 32 sts, hdc in each of next 2 chs, hdc in each of next 33 sts, hdc in each of next 2 chs, join in top of beg ch-2. (70 hdc)

CherryMake 12.

Rnd 1: With size I hook and cardinal, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

LeafMake 12.

Rnd 1: With size F hook and fennel, ch 6, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 chs, hdc in next ch, 3 hdc in last ch, working in opposite side of foundation ch, sk first ch, hdc in next ch, sc in each of next 2 chs, sl st in next ch, join in first sl st. Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY

Place Cozy on teapot. Arrange Cherries with WS facing on cardboard (to protect surface underneath) and lightly spray with temporary adhesive. Refer to photograph as a guide and position 3 pairs where desired on First Side. Carefully remove Cozy from teapot.

Separate an 18-inch strand of cardinal into 4 plies and with 1 ply, sew outer edge of each Cherry to Cozy.

Spray and adhere Leaves in same manner as Cherries, positioning each Leaf approximately 1/2 inch above each Cherry. Separate an 18-inch strand of fennel into 3 separate plies and with 1 ply, sew outer edge of each Leaf to Cozy.

Rep to sew Cherries and Leaves to 2nd Side.

With a strand of chocolate, embroider 2 long straight stitches (see illustration) between each pair of Leaves to Cherries below.

With a strand of mochi, randomly embroider French knots (see illustration) where desired.
