TENSION

21 sts and 30 rows to 10cm measured over patt using 4mm needles

BODY (worked in one piece)

Using 4mm needles cast on 8 sts.

Row 1 (RS): (K1, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 15 sts.

Row 2 and every foll alt row: P.

Row 3: (K2, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 22 sts.

Row 5: (K3, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 29 sts.

Row 7: (K4, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 36 sts.

Row 9: (K5, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 43 sts.

Row 11: (K2, yfwd, Sl 1, K1, psso, K2, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 50 sts.

Row 13: (K7, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 57 sts.

Row 15: (K8, yfwd) 7 times. K1. 64 sts.

Row 17: (K9, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 71 sts.

Row 19: (K10, yfwd) 7 times, K1. 78 sts.

Row 20: P.

Now work in patt from chart for body as folls:

Row 21 (RS): (Work row 1 of chart) 7 times, K1.

Row 22: P1, (work row 2 of chart) 7 times.

These 2 rows set position of chart.

Keeping chart correct, work a further 52 (52:54:54:58) rows, ending after chart row 54 (54:56:56:60) and with RS facing for next row.

PLACE ARMHOLE OPENINGS

Next row (RS): K38 (38:39:39:41), yfwd, K23 (22:21:20:22), cast off next 40 (42:44: 46:48) sts, K until there are 13 (12:13:12:12) sts on right needle after cast-off, yfwd, K38 (38:39:39:41), yfwd, K13 (12:13:12:12), cast off next 40 (42:44:46:48) sts, K until there are 23 (22:21:20:22) sts on right needle after cast-off, yfwd, K to last st, yfwd, K1.

Next row: P to end, casting on 41 (43:45:47:49) sts over each set of cast-off sts of previous row.

274 (274:281:281:295) sts.

Beg with chart row 57 (57:59:59:63) and changing to circular needle when required, cont in patt from chart until chart row 144 has been completed, ending with RS facing for next row.

Cast off all 582 sts loosely.

SLEEVES

Using 4mm needles cast on 55 (57:59:59:61) sts.

Work in garter stitch for 6 rows, ending with RS facing for next row.

Beg and ending rows as indicated and repeating the 12 row patt repeat throughout, now work in patt from chart for sleeve, shaping sides by inc 1 st at each end of 7th (7th:7th:5th:5th) and every foll 8th (8th:8th:6th:6th) row to 65 (75:83:69:79) sts, then on every foll 10th (10th:10th: 8th:8th) row until there are 81 (85:89:93:97) sts, taking inc sts into patt.

Cont straight until sleeve meas 46 (47:48:48:48) cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE TOP

Keeping patt correct, cast off 10 sts at beg of next 6 rows.

Cast off rem 21 (25:29:33:37) sts.

MAKING UP

Block out and press according to instructions on ball band.

Join row-end edges of body from cast-on edge to cast-off edge to form centre back seam using back stitch, or mattress stitch if preferred. (Body should be a large flat circle once joined.)

EDGING

Using 4mm needles cast on 20 sts.

Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, K3, (yfwd, K2tog) 7 times, yfwd, K2. 21 sts.

Row 2: K.

Row 3: Sl 1, K6, (yfwd, K2tog) 6 times, yfwd, K2. 22 sts.

Row 4: K.

Row 5: Sl 1, K9, (yfwd, K2tog) 5 times, yfwd, K2. 23 sts.

Row 6: K.

Row 7: Sl 1, K12, (yfwd, K2tog) 4 times, yfwd, K2. 24 sts.

Row 8: K.

Row 9: Sl 1, K to end.

Row 10: Cast off 4 sts, K to end. 20 sts.

These 10 rows form patt.

Cont in patt until edging, unstretched, fits around entire cast-off edge of body, ending after patt row 10.

Cast off.

Join cast-on and cast-off ends of edging, then slip-stitch straight edge of edging in place to body, matching seams.

Join sleeve seams. Placing top of sleeve seam at end of armhole slit nearest centre back, sew sleeves into armholes.
