BACK

Using 4mm needles cast on 267 sts and work as folls:

Next row: * K1, [P1, K1] 4 times, P1tbl, K1, [P1, K1] 37 times, P1tbl, rep from * to last 9 sts, K1, [P1, K1] 4 times.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 69 sts.

POCKETS (Make two)

Using 4mm needles, cast on 33 sts, and work in rib as folls:

Row 1 (RS): * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, P1.

Row 2: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep these 2 rows until work measures 9cm (3 1/2in) ending with a RS row.

Slip sts on to a stitch holder and leave to one side.

LEFT FRONT

Using 4mm needles, cast on 53 sts, and work in rib as folls:

Row 1 (RS): * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, P1.

Row 2: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep these 2 rows until work measures 9cm (3 1/2in) ending with a WS row.

Place Pocket

Next row (RS): Rib 18, K next 33 sts, then placing them on to a stitch holder, rib last 2 sts (20 sts).

Next row: Rib 2, slip stitches for pocket on to LH needle, rib across 33 sts from pocket, rib 18 (53 sts).

Continue in rib as set, until work measures 26 1/2cm (10 1/2in) from cast on ending with a WS row. Mark row end with waste yarn.

Shape Raglan

Dec 1 st at beg of next and every foll alt row until 15 sts rem, then dec 1 st at raglan edge on every row until 1 st rems. Draw through yarn and fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for left front until work measures 9cm (3 1/2in) ending with a RS row.

Place pocket as for left front, then continue in rib until work measures same as left front to commencement of raglan shaping ending with a RS row. Work raglan shaping as for left front.

POCKET TOPS

Slip 33 sts from stitch holder onto 3.25mm needle and with RS facing, rejoin yarn. Work in moss stitch as folls:

Next row (RS): * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep this row until moss stitch border measures 4cm (1 1/2in). Cast off in moss stitch.

BOTTOM EDGE BORDERS (Make two)

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 67 sts and work in moss stitch as folls:

Next row (RS): * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep this row and at same time dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row until 53 sts rem. Cast off.

FRONT EDGE BORDER

(To fit front of each side and round neck)

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 319 sts and work in moss stitch as for bottom edge border, dec 1 st at each end of 2nd and every foll alt row until 305 sts rem. Cast off rem sts.

BACK BORDER

(To fit from end of bottom edge borders, around outside edge of scarf front pieces and around back)

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 405 sts and work in moss stitch as for bottom edge border, dec 1 st at each end of 2nd and every foll alt row until 391 sts rem. Cast off rem sts.

MAKING UP

Block work with WS facing, stretching out lower edges. Stitch pockets into position using a flat slip stitch. Catch pocket tops into position on RS of work. Using a flat slip stitch join back to front pieces from top edge to marked position on fronts.

Using flat slip stitches attach front and back borders matching centre of each piece to centre back of garment, and border ends to bottom corners of garment pieces, stretching and easing remaining fabric into place. Stitch bottom edge borders into position, joining all mitred corners neatly. Darn in all ends.
