Sizes Woman's small (medium, large, X-large, 2X-large)

Instructions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes.

Finished Measurements

Chest: 39 (43, 47, 51, 55) inches

Length: 25 1/2 (26, 26 1/2, 27, 27 1/2) inches

Note: This tee is intended to be oversize.

Materials

O-Wool Balance (worsted weight; 50% organic cotton/50% organic merino; 130 yds/50g per hank) (4):

6 (7, 8, 8, 9) hanks jade

Size 8 (5mm) straight and 24-inch circular needles

Size 9 (5.5mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge

16 sts and 20 rows = 4 inches/10cm in Lace Columns pat using larger needles (blocked).

To save time, take time to check gauge.

Special Abbreviation

Slip, slip, purl (ssp): Slip 2 sts 1 at a time kwise to RH needle; return sts to LH needle in turned position and p2tog-tbl—a left-leaning single dec.

Pattern Stitches

Cluster (multiple of 3 sts + 5)

Row 1 (RS): K3, *yo, k3, then pass first st over last 2 sts and off the needle; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 2: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 3: K2, *k3, then pass first st over last 2 sts and off the needle, yo; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 4: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.

Rep Rows 1-4 for pat.

Lace Columns (multiple of 4 sts + 2)

Row 1 (WS): P1, *p2, yo, p2tog; rep from * to last st, p1.

Row 2 (RS): K1, *k2, yo, skp; rep from * to last st, k1.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 for pat.

Pattern Notes

Top is worked in 2 pieces from the bottom up, then seamed. Sleeves are integrated into front and back pieces.

When shaping, work decreases as follows: Work k1, k2tog at beginning of right-side rows and ssk, k1 at end. Work pi, ssp at beginning of wrong-side rows and p2tog, p1 at end.

Back

With smaller needles, cast on 77 (86, 95, 101, 110) sts.

Rows 1-5: Knit.

Row 6 (WS): K2, *p2tog, yo; rep from * to last 3 (2, 3, 3, 2) sts, p1 (0, 1, 1, 0), k2.

Rows 7-11: Knit.

Row 12 (WS): Purl.

Work Cluster pat until piece measures 5 inches, ending with a WS row; pm at each end of last row worked.

Knit 5 rows.

Eyelet row (WS): K2, *p2tog, yo; rep from * to last 3 (2, 3, 3, 2) sts, p1 (0, 1, 1, 0), k2.

Knit 4 rows, ending with a WS row. Next row (RS): Knit across and inc 1 (inc 0, dec 1, inc 1, inc 0) st(s) at center of row—78 (86, 94, 102, 110) sts.

Change to larger needles; work Lace Columns pat until piece measures 16 inches, ending with a WS row.

Shape Sleeves

Cast on 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows—86 (94, 102, 110, 118) sts.

Working new sts into established pat, work even until sleeves measure 7 1/2 (8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2) inches, ending with a WS row.

Shape Shoulders

Bind off 5 (5, 6, 7, 7) sts at beg of next 10 (2, 6, 10, 2) rows, then bind off 0 (6, 7, 0, 8) sts at the beg of next 0 (8, 4, 0, 8) rows.

Leave rem 36 (36, 38, 40, 40) sts on holder for back neck. 

Front

Work same as for back until sleeves measure 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2) inches, ending with a WS row—86 (94, 102, 110, 118) sts.

Shape Neck & Shoulders

Division row (RS): Work 34 (38, 41, 44, 48) sts; transfer center 18 (18, 20, 22, 22) sts to holder for front neck; join a 2nd ball of yarn and work in pat to end.

Working both sides at once with separate balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each neck edge [every row] 9 times, and at the same time, when armhole measures 7 1/2 (8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2) inches, shape shoulders as for back.

Finishing

Block pieces to finished measurements. Sew shoulder seams.

Neck Edging

With RS facing, using circular needle and beg at right shoulder seam, pick up and knit 80 (80, 84, 88, 88) sts evenly around neck opening, including sts on holders; pm for beg of rnd.

Purl 1 rnd; knit 1 rnd. Bind off all sts pwise.

Armhole Edging

With RS facing and using smaller needle, pick up and knit 64 (68, 72, 76, 80) sts evenly along sleeve edge.

Rows 1-4: Knit.

Row 5 (Eyelet row, WS): K2, *p2tog, yo; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Rows 6-8: Knit.

Bind off all sts kwise.

Sew sleeve and side seams to side markers, leaving side edge below markers open for side vent.

Weave in ends.
